How do I install it?
On Mac, open the dmg and drag Pressay into Applications. On Windows, run the Universal installer; it picks x64 or ARM64 for you. The first launch walks you through permissions, the microphone, and a shortcut test.
Why can Windows still show SmartScreen?
The installer carries the company code signature, but a brand-new build can still raise the prompt before it accumulates download reputation. Download only from pressay.ai, and check the publisher and the SHA-256 given on the download page.
Why no password?
Pressay supports Google, Apple, and one-time email codes, without a password. If you choose email, you receive a code each time you sign in.
One shortcut
One key, one action: tap to start, tap again to stop; tap with text selected and what you say becomes a rewrite instruction.
The default shortcut
Fn on Mac, right Alt on Windows; either can be changed to any key combination in Settings. There is exactly one global binding — operations have no global shortcut of their own.
Tap to speak
Tap the shortcut, speak, and tap again to finish. Pressay refines sentence by sentence while you speak, then inserts the result into the input box your cursor was in when you tapped. It only writes text — it never sends for you. If the target is gone or cannot be written, the result is copied to the clipboard and kept in history, a notice tells you so, and nothing is written into another app.
Tap with a selection: Command Mode
Select some text in the app you are in, tap the shortcut, say how it should change — “translate this to English”, “make it shorter”, “make it formal” — and tap again to finish. Pressay reads the selection exactly once, at the moment you tap, and the result replaces exactly that selection without touching anything outside it. Translation is not a separate feature; it is just one kind of instruction.
How do I know whether I am using Command Mode or Dictation Mode?
Pressay uses Command Mode when it can read a non-empty selection at the moment you tap; otherwise it uses Dictation Mode. The recording capsule looks the same in both modes and has no mode label. Some apps do not expose their selection, so your spoken words may be inserted as text even when you see a highlight.
What if the Command Mode result cannot be written back?
Before writing back, Pressay re-reads the selection and compares it word for word with the one frozen when you tapped; if the selection has changed, disappeared, or the field cannot be written, it leaves the current focus alone. The full result is shown in the notice, where you can select and copy it, with a Copy to clipboard action at the bottom, and it is kept in history. The instruction you spoke never goes to the clipboard, history, or the notice.
What Esc does
If a dictation or rewrite is in progress, Esc aborts it immediately; otherwise it does nothing. An aborted dictation keeps the text formed so far in history and writes nothing into the target; an aborted rewrite has no result, and the selection is left untouched.

The shortcut does nothing
On Mac, re-enable Pressay under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. On Windows, first confirm Pressay is still running in the tray, then record the shortcut again in Settings.
The microphone picks up nothing
First switch the input device under Settings → Audio. If the waveform stays completely flat, quit any video-conferencing app that may be holding the microphone exclusively, then try again.
Which fields cannot be used?
Pressay supports most standard editable fields. When a secure field such as a password or a verification code has focus, Pressay does not start voice input and does not write into it — use the system keyboard or a physical one. Apps and custom-drawn controls that expose no standard text insertion may not accept an automatic insert; the content is then copied to the clipboard and kept in history, the notice lets you copy it again, and nothing is lost.

When an insert fails, the content is placed on the clipboard and kept in history, and the notice lets you copy it again, so it is never lost. Granting accessibility permission again restores automatic insertion.

How much can I write each week?
Free includes all features and full quality, with 50,000 words each week. The allowance resets at 00:00 UTC every Monday.
Can I buy Pro yet?
Global supports monthly and annual Pro subscriptions. Visit /en/pricing/ to choose Pro and see prices. Manage renewal at /en/billing-subscription/; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period.
How do I delete my account?
Choose Delete account in /en/billing-subscription/ on the website or under Account Settings in Pressay. Only after the server confirms success does the app clear the local sign-in state, history, and personal dictionary; if it fails, your data stays and you can retry.

What is the difference between Dictation Mode and Command Mode?
Dictation Mode refines as you speak and only makes corrections that do not change your meaning; what you say is what gets written. In Command Mode, you speak an instruction after selecting text and tapping: Pressay rewrites that passage as instructed and replaces it — translate it, tighten it, change the tone, fold in a correction from several sentences later. History lists the final result. Desktop Command details show the original, instruction, and result. These stay on this device and do not sync.
What if I want to work on text from somewhere else?
Select that text right where it is, then tap the shortcut and say how to change it. Pressay reads the selection exactly once, at the moment you tap — handing the text over is always your own act of selecting it. Apps that expose no selection (some custom-drawn controls) are treated as dictation.
Proper nouns keep coming out wrong
Add names, products, or terms to your personal dictionary so recognition and refinement can use those spellings. Pressay also learns words from your corrections to inserted text. Your dictionary syncs across devices, and you can edit or delete any term.
Is what I say stored?
Audio and cloud processing results are not retained. History is kept only on your own computer, and you can set it to keep nothing.
Does it need an internet connection?
Yes. Recognition and refinement run in the cloud. If the connection drops, Pressay says so plainly instead of silently discarding a recording.
